As some of you have already heard, the Glee Club's spring tour to Florida and Puerto Rico was cancelled on short notice Friday morning due to concerns related to the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Over the past several days, other Yale ensembles (including the YSO, Concert Band, Philharmonia, and Schola Cantorum) have also cancelled tour plans. Yale has announced as of today that campus events involving groups of 100 or more should be cancelled or adjusted.
In light of these developments, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel the Singing Dinner planned for Saturday, Apr. 4, and to advise out-of-town alums to cancel their plans to travel to New Haven that weekend. All registration fees will be refunded.
We regret the unavoidable inconveniences that will result from this decision, and we especially regret missing another opportunity to gather with our singing family. But we also recognize that these decisions are being made by public health officials in order to protect the safety and health of our students, colleagues, friends, and families.
THE GOOD NEWS: At this point, we plan to proceed with the afternoon events scheduled on Apr. 4 - the panel discussion on gender and choral singing, sharing of our new documentary film, and the new Yale song workshop. These events will not be open for our alums to attend in person, but we plan to livestream them so that you can tune in from wherever you are. We may even explore some creative ways for alums to participate virtually in real time. Please stay tuned for details!
It is clear that the next several weeks will require all of us to be patient and flexible. We are grateful to you for your understanding, and we look forward to the next time we will gather in friendship and song.
